Rana Plaza survivor 'raped' in Savar

Our Correspondent, Savar

A female garment worker and survivor of Rana Plaza collapse was allegedly raped repeatedly for two days in Bank Colony in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital.
Police arrested one Shahabuddin, 46, a hawker of the area, in this connection.
The victim filed a case against Shahabuddin claiming he had confined her for two days at his residence and raped her there repeatedly.
She alleged Shahabuddin lured her there by promising her compensation in connection with the collapse of the nine-storey building last year.
Locals, hearing shouts from Shahabuddin's residence, alerted law enforcers, said police. Police rescued her and arrested Shahabuddin.
Police sent the victim to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for tests to verify whether she was raped.
