Activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami hurled a crude bomb targeting a human hauler carrying police personnel in Rajshahi city during Jamaat daylong hartal today.
None was hurt, reports our Rajshahi correspondent quoting Rejaul Islam, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station.
The OC said around 100 Shibir men reached Duspukur area in procession around 8:45am and set fire on the road pouring kerosene.
On information, police rushed there with two requisitioned human haulers to free the road.
Sensing their presence, the Shibir activists hurled a hand bomb targeting one of the human haulers but it hit the road, the OC said.
The vehicle was slightly damaged in the explosion, he added.
As police fire several gunshots in the air, the activists fled the scene.
In Pabna, the hartal supporters blocked the Dhaka Pabna highway at different points since the hartal began at 6:00am.
The Jamaat has called the dawn-to-dusk hartal for today, protesting the death penalty for its ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami in the 10-truck arms haul case.
