Raj Punnah fest from Dec 19
The celebration of the 138th Raj Punnah, a traditional festival of the Bohmong tribe, will start in Bandarban on December 19 this year.
Bohmong Circle chief Engineer U Chaw Prue announced this at a press conference held at the royal palace yesterday.
On the opening day, Bohmong Circle chief will collect tax from the headmen of 109 mouzas and around 1000 karbaris (businessmen).
Indigenous people, mostly jhum farmers, give annual tax to their respective headmen and Karbaris who formally pay the money to the king.
People belonging to Bohmong Circle also bring different kinds of gifts for the king during the festival. A fair will be held on the premises of the royal palace during the three-day Raj Punnah.
Chakma Circle in Rangamati and Mong Circle in Khagrachhari also celebrate the century-old traditional festival.
