Rab surveillance on at Shaheed Minar
Starting today, elite force Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) will be keeping a close eye in and around the Central Shaheed Minar premises to ensure public security ahead of February 21, its director general said.
The force has taken a three-day security plan for the premises for public security in view of the continuing countrywide agitation, Rab Director General Benazir Ahmed said at a briefing on the Shaheed Minar premises in Dhaka around 11:00am.
“We have taken the measures so that the public can come to the Shaheed Minar and pay their respects without trouble during the ongoing blockade and hartal,” he said.
With February 21, international mother language day, approaching and BNP apparently adamant on continuing their agitation for fresh polls, the Rab has set up a control room to begin their watch from today to ensure foolproof security.
Along with several check points adjacent to the area, Rab teams will be out with dogs to check on at the Shaheed Minar premises, he said.
BNP-led 20-party alliance sponsored the ongoing nationwide agitation since January 6 demanding talks for fresh polls. At least 72 people were killed in political violence since then.
