Rab men blamed for abducting another businessman
The family of a Narayanganj businessman has alleged that a group of people with the help of some Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members abducted him from old part of Dhaka a month ago.
Rahmatullah Sentu was coming out of the chamber of a muhuri (lawyer’s assistant) around 11:00am on April 9 when eight to 10 men in plainclothes dragged him," Lovely Akhtar, Sentu's wife, said at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club in the capital today.
"As they tried to take my husband into a microbus, he cried for help," she said.
Locals rushed to the scene to save him, she added.
Lovely said she later sought help from policemen posted in the area.
"The policemen, after talking to the persons, informed me that they identified themselves as members of Rab-10," she said.
At one point, three Rab men in uniform appeared there and dispersed the locals, thus making way for the microbus to go, she said.
Sentu's wife said she went to the Rab-10 headquarters to seek information about her husband.
But she was not allowed in and told that Rab did not pick up Sentu, Lovely said.
Later on April 16, she filed an abduction case with Kotwali Police Station accusing some unidentified persons for the abduction.
Contacted, Rab-10 Commanding Officer Lt Col Khandaker Golam Sarowar said, "We have not received any written complaint in this regard. We will look into the matter once the complaint is lodged."
