Rab finds 21 of its men involved
In a probe report submitted to the High Court today, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) said it found involvement of 21 of its men in the Narayanganj seven-murder, among whom ex-commanding officer Tareque Sayeed and Maj Arif Hossain were involved throughout.
Rab filed its probe report to the Attorney General Mahbubey Alam on November 23. He forwarded it to a HC bench today, more than three weeks after the submission.
The probe report said it found Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, former commanding officer of Rab-11, and Maj Arif Hossain involved since abduction to killing of seven persons, including local panel mayor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Sarkar, in Narayanganj.
Lt Commander MM Rana was partially involved, the report said.
The other Rab men found involved were – SI Purnendu Bala, AB Arif Hossain, Nayak Nazim (driver), Nayeb Delwar (driver), Lance Nayak Hira Mia, Sainik Mohiuddin Munshi, Sainik Abdul Alim, Sainik Alamin, Sipahi Toiyab, Constable Shihab Uddin, Constable Alamin, Havildar Emdad, Lance Nayak Belal Hossain, Sainik Asad, Sergeant Enamul, ASI Bazlu, Havildar (driver) Nasir, and Sainik Tajul.
The HC bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore, after receiving the report, said further necessary order in this regard will be passed in January next year.
The bench, in its observation, said that the probe report will might be incomplete since some other Rab members gave confessional statement after the report was prepared.
GOVT PROBE TO CONTINUE UNDER SHAHJAHAN MOLLAH
Shahjahan Ali Mollah will continue to lead the seven-member body and complete the government’s investigation in the Narayanganj seven-murder, the HC bench said today.
Ex-additional secretary to the public admin ministry Shahjahan Mollah was made head of a seven-member probe body formed under an HC order to probe Narayanganj murders.
Under him, the body quizzed several people including Narayanganj Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, lawmaker Shamim Osman, Rab Director General Mokhlesur Rahman and others.
The body could not come up with a full report with seven moths passed.
On Tuesday, Shahjahan was transferred to another position in the ministry and removed from the head of the committee.
In this context, the HC said today that Shahjahan Molla will remain head of the public administration’s committee and complete the investigation into the murders.
On April 27, around the same time period, Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his driver and three affiliates, lawyer Chandan Sarkar and his driver were abducted.
Later, their bodies were found from the Sitalakhya river in mutilated condition.
Families of the victims alleged involvement of the Rab in affiliation with ward councillor Nur Hossain for the abductions and killings.
Ex-Rab-11 officers Tareque Sayeed, son in-law of disaster management minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Maj Arif and MM Rana were expelled from respective positions in the elite force and concerned armed forces. They later confessed the killing.
Key accused Nur Hossain is currently held captive in India charged with intrusion.
