Qatar keen to invest in energy sector
Qatar, one of the richest Gulf States, has expressed interest to invest in Bangladesh's energy sector and to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal.
Qatar Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani conveyed it to Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed during a meeting on Monday night on the sidelines of a three-day Doha Forum being held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Doha from the day.
The premier also assured the Bangladesh commerce minister of hiring more Bangladeshis as Qatar will require a huge workforce for developing infrastructure ahead of the World Cup 2022, said a media release of the commerce ministry yesterday.
Tofail briefed the Qatar prime minister about the investment climate and prevailing facilities and laid emphasis on recruiting more workers from Bangladesh.
“An investment-friendly environment is prevailing in Bangladesh right now,” said Tofail seeking fresh Qatar investment in Bangladesh.
The commerce minister handed over an invitation to the Qatari premier on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for visiting Bangladesh.
The Qatari PM appreciated his Bangladesh counterpart's development initiatives and invited her to visit Qatar.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Syed Masud Mahmud was also present.
The commerce minister is scheduled to return home on Thursday.
