Pro-AL, BNP lawyers scuffle at SC
Lawyers loyal to BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and ruling Awami League engaged in a scuffle at the Supreme Court today.
Both groups were holding counter programmes at the apex court premises when pro-AL lawyers stormed the BNP-Jamaat lawyers’ meeting and snatched away their microphone around noon.
The pro-AL lawyers alleged that the noise created by the use of the microphone at the meeting of the BNP-backed lawyers was disturbing their gathering.
The pro-AL lawyers organised a human chain programme in protest to the violence and terrorism.
The scuffle incident created tension among the lawyers and litigants who were present there.
Meanwhile, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Khandaker Mahbub Hossain stressed the need for peaceful transition of power through the resignation of the government.
Khandaker Mahbub Hossain said that political parties can reach a consensus to holding a dialogue on determining to whom the government will hand over power.
“Holding a fair election as per the desire of the people is the only way to overcome this situation,” he said while addressing a press conference at the bar association auditorium around 12:30pm.
He said the disconnection of power supply to Khaleda Zia’s office is a serious threat to her security.
The countrymen will resist the threat and government will have to pay a hard price for this.
