AL leader shot dead in capital
A ward level leader of the ruling Awami League was shot dead by some unidentified assailants in the capital's Agargaon last night, said police.
Jahangir Alam, 45, was one of the president candidates of ward no-28 unit of AL, said Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police.
He was also president of Agargaon Momota Bahumukhi Samabaya Samity, said his widow Parvin Begum.
He was shot in the chest before his West Agargaon residence while he was getting down from his car around 11:30am, said Abdul Gafur, a neighbour.
Jahangir was declared dead at the nearby National Institute of Traumatology Orthipedics and Rehabilitation on arrival, said the family.
Biplob Kumar Sarker, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Tejgaon Division), said they were investigating the incident.
Our Jessore correspondent reports, unidentified miscreants shot dead the president of pro-Awami League Swechchhasebak League's Jessore town unit yesterday.
Abdul Mannan, 50, was an auctioneer and the owner of AM Traders in the town, said Kotwali police Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam.
Around six masked people shot him while he was closing down his business establishment in Begpara around 6:00pm, the OC said.
