Ports hoist signal No. 2 as ‘Hud Hud’ intensifies
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal No. 2 as the cyclonic storm “Hud Hud” over southeast Bay and adjoining area moved slightly west-north-westwards today.
The cyclone now lies over east-central Bay and adjoining southeast area at 6:00am, a special weather bulletin of the Met office said.
All fishing boats and trawlers over northern Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
Meanwhile skies of central, southern and south-eastern districts remained overcast with precipitation seen at many places including Dhaka due to the low in the sea.
Hud Hud was centred about 1,025 kilometres south-southwest of Chittagong port and 940 kilometres south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1,015 kilometres south-southeast of Mongla port and 975 kilometres south of Payra port.
It is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm and move in a west, north-western direction.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kilometres of the storm centre is about 62 kilometres per hour rising to 88 kilometres per hour in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain very rough near centre of the storm.
