Polls violence: Injured Noakhali ansar man dies
An ansar member who sustained injuries during Thursday's polls violence in Noakhali died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) early today.
Jamal Uddin, 38, breathed his last around 5:00am at the DMCH, reports our Noakhali correspondent.
Uddin, a resident of Dhannyapur village in Sonaimuri upazila of the district, came under attack when he along with his colleagues were trying to resist the supporters of Awami League-backed chairman candidate AFM Babul from snatching the ballot boxes on Thursday, Abdus Samad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonaimuri Police Station, told The Daily Star today.
The supporters of Babul were trying to snatch the ballot boxes from Dhannyapur Mohila Madrasa polling centre during the second phase of upazila election on that day, the OC said.
Facing law enforcers' resistance, the henchmen of the AL leader stabbed them, leaving three ansar men including Uddin injured.
He was taken to DMCH immediately after the attack where he succumbed to his injuries early today.
He will be buried at his family graveyard this afternoon, family sources said.
