Social welfare minister passes away
Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali died at Singapore General Hospital this morning at the age of 67.
He breathed his last at 10:59am (Singapore time), Bangladesh High Commissioner to Singapore Mahbub Uz Zaman told The Daily Star.
The minister was taken to Singapore in an air ambulance on September 5.
Mohsin Ali caught pneumonia and was on life support at the Birdem hospital on September 3.
He was diabetic and also had heart issues. Earlier, he had undergone a bypass surgery.
A veteran freedom fighter, Mohsin Ali left his wife, three daughters, relatives, party men and well-wishers to mourn his death, news agency BSS reports.
He was an elected lawmaker from Habiganj-3 constituency.
President Abdul Hamid has expressed profound shock at the death of the social welfare minister.
"The nation has lost a dedicated politician and valiant freedom fighter at the death of Syed Mohsin Ali. His sad demise is really irreparable loss to the country's political arena," the president said.
