SC seeks record of talk show on Mir Quasem’s verdict
The Supreme Court today asked for the records of a talk show aired by private television channel Somoy TV to examine whether the comments made at the show are contemptuous.
Somoy TV authorities have been ordered to submit a recorded version of the talk show to the apex court through its registrar general by September 4.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the court that some of the comments of the talk show aired by Somoy TV last night on the war crimes trial of Mir Quasem Ali are contemptuous.
Somoy TV broadcast the programme from 10:00pm to 10:38pm.
Former Appellate Division Judge AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik, International Crimes Tribunal prosecutor Barrister Turin Afroze and journalist Swapan Dasgupta participated the talk show programme.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court dismissed Mir Quasem’s petition for reviewing its judgment that upheld his death penalty for committing crimes against humanity in 1971.
