Rumour has it, AL pushed CJ to resign: BNP
Rumour has it that the ruling Awami League has pressured Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha to resign, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said today.
Rizvi claimed that “an unprecedented meeting” was held between Obaidul Quader and the chief justice in disguise of dinner party at the latter’s residence.
“Then another meeting was held at Bangabhaban between president, prime minister, law minister, party’s general secretary and the attorney general,” he alleged.
“After the meeting, a rumour was circulating among the people that a huge pressure was mounted on chief justice to resign from the office,” he said at a press briefing at party’s Nayapaltan office.
The BNP leader said the ruling party’s demand of expunging some words from the verdict observation is legally impossible.
“They became frightened of losing the power after the release of the full verdict and that is why they are creating pressure from various corners to keep the judiciary under pressure,” Rizvi said.
