Price hike: JP MPs slam commerce, food ministers
Jatiya Party lawmakers today came down heavily on Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Food Minister Qamrul Islam for their failure to control price hike of rice and daily necessary commodities.
“Our commerce minister [Tofail] is a seasoned politician, but he has failed to control the price hike of essentials, particularly in the month of Ramadan,” JP MP Ruhul Amin Hawlader, said while taking part in the discussion on the proposed budget for 2017-18 fiscal in the parliament.
Hawlader said, “Lowest price of per kilogram of rice is over Tk 50, how the price reached to so high? It seems the government is indifferent.”
He also said imposition of 15 percent uniform VAT ahead of next general election would be suicidal as people will have to pay dearly due to the proposed VAT for the next fiscal year.
“The way government is burdening people with VAT is unexpected. People are frustrated and speechless with the budget,” said Hawlader, also JP secretary general.
