PM’s comment harmful for democracy: BNP
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s comment that “BNP will not come to power in the next general election” is “harmful” for democracy, BNP secretary general Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today.
The prime minister made the comment in her party Awami League’s 20th council yesterday.
The premier called upon the party men to work hard so that BNP cannot come to power, Fakhrul said adding, “Her speech is lamentable and dangerous for democracy.”

The BNP leader was addressing a programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium marking the 15th death anniversary of BNP leader Akhtar Ahmed Siddique.
Fakhrul mentioned that the prime minister in front of the foreign delegates who came to attend Awami League’s council, said that AL has saved democracy and will work for it to flourish.
But there is no democracy in the country and the country’s people have no basic rights, he added.
The prime minister while delivering her introductory speeches on the second day of AL council at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, asked AL men to stay alert so that BNP-Jamaat who embezzled public money cannot come to power.
She also asked her party leaders and workers to take all out preparations for the next general elections for a third consecutive win.
“I want our party to win the polls and serve the people of Bangladesh again," she said.
