Farewell to Suranjit in respect
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and other members of the parliament bid farewell to deceased politician Suranjit Sengupta today.
A coffin bearing the body of the political doyens, who breathed his last in the wee hours, was taken to the South Plaza of the parliament premises this afternoon, where the last respects were paid.
President Abdul Hamid placed the first wreath at the coffin, followed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.
Later, leaders of the opposition Jatiya Party, Awami League and its lawmakers, and senior BNP leaders also placed wreath at the coffin of Sengupta.
Suranjit Sengupta died at Labaid hospital early today after prolonged illness. He was 72.
He was suffering from cancer which led to the collapse of his central nervous system and due to that his lung stopped functioning. He was on life support at the hospital since last night.
