No polls under Hasina-led govt: Goyeshwar
BNP Standing Committee Member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy today said that his party will not take part in any election under the incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led administration.
“If we would join the elections under Sheikh Hasina, we could have joined the polls in 2014. Why will we go for the election under the same administration after five years?” Goyeshwar told a questioner after placing wreaths at the grave of the party founder Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar of Dhaka.
Talking about the case lodged against BNP senior leaders including Khaleda and her son Tarique Rahman, he said these are not aimless but motivated to keep the top brasses of the party away from the election.
When asked about the framework of the election time government to be placed before the prime minister, Goyeshwar said BNP will take a decision in this regard through discussion in the party forum meeting.
“We did not finalise any decision over the framework of the election time government yet,” he added.
When asked about Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader’s comment that the national election will not wait for Khaleda, Goyeshwar said no people went to the vote centres on January 5, 2014 general election. The same situation will take place again if the upcoming general election is held under Sheikh Hasina, he said.
“If Awami League can hang on to power by holding such election, it can do this, no matter but we will not participate in the election without Khaleda Zia.”
Meanwhile, another BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed said BNP will win the next general election if it is held in a neutral manner.
Addressing a programme at Noakhali, he said it would not be possible to hold an impartial national election under a partisan government no matter how strong the election commission is.
“Therefore an election time supportive government is needed. BNP will get landslide victory in election if it is held under a supportive government,” he added.
