No level playing field yet: Shakhawat
A level-playing field is yet to be ensured for the Narayanganj City Corporation election, said BNP’s candidate for the race Shakhawat Hossain today.
In an impromptu reaction while talking to reporters in Narayanganj, Shakhawat said a free and fair election is “not possible under the present administration”.
BNP today announced Shakhawat as their candidate for the mayor race of Narayanganj on December 22 against Awami League’s Selina Hayat Ivy, who is the prevailing mayor.
Shakhawat, a pro-BNP lawyer and the petitioner’s lawyer for sensational Narayanganj 7-murder case, said: “People are showing interest in the elections. They want to cast their votes.”
“But it is urgent to replace the partisan people in administration with the neutral ones. The present administration will not be able to hold a free and fair election.”
Although he got BNP’s ticket to contest in the NCC election, Shakhawat has no post in either the central committee or local unit of BNP.
