Next national polls may be my last: Ershad
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad today said participating the national elections in 2019 may be the last election of his life.
Ershad, the former military ruler, was speaking at a programme organised to mark the 31st founding anniversary of his party at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.
If his party is voted to power, Ershad vowed to change the election system.
“We were harmed, and we want no more of it,” he said adding that he will establish regional government if he wins the elections.
He also pledged his commitment for full-fledged upazila system.
He also promised security to the minority communities adding that he will ensure their higher education, jobs and representation in the Jatiya Sangsad.
They got many seats by contesting polls independently, he claimed.
“This time we need to take the party to power, this time we will not let JP to be used by others as stairs to reach to power,” Raushan Ershad, the party’s senior co-chairman and the opposition leader in JS, said in her speech on the occasion.
