Movement if govt fails to reach consensus on EC: BNP
BNP Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed today warned that his party will enforce a tougher movement if the government fails to reach a consensus through dialogue on formation of new Election Commission (EC).
“We have shown the way to reach a consensus for democracy. We will have no alternative but to go for a tougher mass movement if the efforts go in vain,” Moudud said while addressing a programme at the National Press Club in Dhaka this noon.
The former law minister said BNP wants an acceptable search committee so that it can form a capable, competent and nonpartisan EC for the sake of holding the next general election in a free, fair and credible manner.
“We believe that the president would give a fruitful resolution by forming an impartial search committee to put an end to the prevailing crisis over the new Election Commission,” he added.
