Militant activities rise as India pressing for defence deal: BNP
BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury today alleged that the militant activities have increased in the country when neighbouring India is pressing Bangladesh for signing deals on defence.
“Awami League is using militancy issue as a political instrument to stay in power and to gain its petty political interest,” Khashru said while addressing a programme at the Photo Journalist Association auditorium in Dhaka this noon.
He said his party chief Khaleda Zia has repeatedly been calling upon the government to forge a national consensus to curb the militancy in the country but the government did not pay heed to the issue.
Claiming that tackling militancy is a tough matter, the BNP leader called upon the government not to show negligence to deal with the issue.
