Khaleda may come up with reaction after PM speech
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is likely to come up with her reaction following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s press conference on Rampal coal based power plant this afternoon.
She may give her reaction on the PM’s speech at her Gulshan office where she is scheduled to exchange greetings with leaders of Hindu community on the occasion of Janmashtami around 8:30pm, her media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan told The Daily Star.
The PM is scheduled to brief media at her official residence Gono Bhaban at 4:00pm following different environmentalist and citizen’s groups opposition against the power plant considering adverse impact on the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world.
The National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports on August 20 announced to march towards Dhaka on November 24 if the government does not cancel Rampal power plant project by this time.
The committee will also hold a grand rally in the capital on November 26 and, rallies at its divisional and district headquarters throughout September, October and November on same demand as they claim the project will cause severe harm to the Sundarbans, also a world heritage site.
They will hold a rally in front of the Indian high commission in Dhaka and will submit an open letter to the Indian prime minister soon.
Earlier on Wednesday Khaleda in a press conference termed the power plant anti-people and demanded that the government scrap the Rampal power plant project.
