SC to hear Shafik Rehman’s bail plea July 14
The Supreme Court today fixed July 14 to hear an appeal filed by veteran journalist Shafik Rehman seeking bail in a sedition case.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique fixed the date for hearing the appeal in the case filed for his alleged attempts to abduct and murder Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
Shafik Rehman filed the appeal on June 16 against a High Court order that rejected a petition seeking bail in the case.
The HC on June 7 rejected his bail petition on the ground that the investigation into the case against him was going on.
Advocate M Asaduzzaman, a lawyer for Rehman, told The Daily Star that he moved the appeal before the SC chamber judge today and after holding a brief hearing the chamber judge sent the appeal to the full bench of the appellate division for its hearing on July 14.
The former editor of the daily Jaijaidin was arrested on April 16 in the case at his residence by detectives identifying themselves as television reporters.
