Hartal in Bogra tomorrow for Tarique
BNP has called for a half-day hartal (shutdown) in Bogra district tomorrow protesting the conviction of the party’s Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman in a graft case.
Bogra district unit BNP convened the hartal after an emergency meeting held at its office today, our local correspondent reports quoting party sources.
The hartal has been called for 6:00am to 2:00pm in Bogra, the hometown of Tarique Rahman. The BNP leader is currently in London, living on parole for eight years.
Saiful Islam, district unit president of BNP confirmed the hartal declaration and added that they will take further programmes in this regard.
Last Thursday, the Supreme Court convicted Tarique of siphoning over Tk 20 crore abroad and gave him seven-year jail term – a case earlier Tarique was acquitted of.
