Graft: SC allows Khaleda to crosscheck IO
The Supreme Court today allowed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to cross examine the investigation officer of Zia Charitable Trust corruption case on three issues.
The issues relate to how the investigation officer is working after being withdrawn in 2005 and what he said in the affidavit of the case and the process of dealing with the property of the trust, Anti-Corruption Commission’s lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after hearing two separate leave to appeal petitions filed by Khaleda Zia challenging a High Court verdict that cleared the way for running the trial proceedings of the case at the trial court.
On May 31, Khaleda filed the petition through her lawyer challenging the High Court verdict for staying the trial proceedings of Zia Charitable Trust corruption case against her. That day, she also left the leave to appeal petitions through her lawyers.
On May 15, the HC rejected two revision petitions of Khaleda, seeking a stay on the trial, and cleared the way for the lower court to continue the trial.
