Govt conspiring to cripple country: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today alleged that the government is hatching a conspiracy to turn the country into a failed militant state.
“The government wants to turn Bangladesh into failed militant states like Syria and Afghanistan. But we cannot allow them to do that,” Fakhrul said at a programme in Dhaka.
Criticising Awami League’s political characteristic, the BNP leader said this very party always tries to curb its political opponent in order to cling on to power.
Earlier Awami League has fought for the democracy and led the Liberation War. Now it is destroying the country’s democracy, he alleged.
“Awami League has turned into a fascist political party after taking charge of the state and it is its political characteristic.”
Uttar Banga Chhatra forum, a pro-BNP platform organised the programme marking the jail release day of Tarique Rahman at the Engineers’ Institution, Bangladesh in Dhaka.
Tarique was arrested on different charges, including corruption, in March 2007, during the last caretaker government. He was released on bail on September 3, 2008. He is now in London for the last eight years.
