Gaibandha attack tantamount to genocide: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today blamed the government for the recent attack on Santals in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha and said it was tantamount to “genocide.”
“Santals have been killed by letting loose the law enforcers. It was inhumane and also tantamount to genocide,” Fakhrul said while addressing a programme at Institute of Engineers’ Bangladesh in Dhaka this afternoon.
Referring to the recent attacks on religious minorities, Fakhrul said people are now passing through insecurity due to the misdeeds and mismanagement of the government.
“It seems to me that we are living under an uncivilised government as people irrespective of religion are not secured,” he said.
The BNP leader also held the ruling Awami League men responsible for Nasirnagar and Gaibandha attacks and said, “We will have to free people from the grip of the government.”
Accusing the government of its failure to face BNP politically, he said his party’s leaders and activists are being repressed and harassed by the law enforcers deliberately.
