Fakhrul warns against ‘actions on Khaleda’
Expressing fears that the government might take actions against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today warned of “consequences”.
“We will not eat nuts if the government takes actions against our chief Khaleda Zia,” the party’s spokesman said at BNP’s protest programme in Dhaka.
Fakhrul referred to the conviction of Tarique Rahman, BNP’s senior vice chairman and Khaleda’s elder son, in a graft case and expressed concerns that “the government might move against BNP in the overall.”
The government has already given its verdict against BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman. Its next target is Khaleda Zia and then the other senior leaders, he said.
Terming the verdict against Tarique Rahman as last chapter of the government’s conspiracy, Fakhrul said: “It is a matter of our existence. We will not be spared.”
Claiming Tarique Rahman’s verdict as politically motivated, Fakhrul said it has been done so that Tarique Rahman cannot take part in politics and the next general election.
BNP had organised today’s protest against the conviction of Tarique Rahman.
