Fakhrul criticises Rohingya policy
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today criticised the government for Rohingya push back policy saying it does not understand the people’s pulse.
He also called upon the government to take diplomatic steps for pressurising Myanmar on this issue and ensure sheltering Rohingyas in Bangladesh temporarily.
Fakhrul also condemned the role of Nobel laureate Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and said: “We strongly oppose intervening in any issue of other countries. But we will be concerned if the burden from outside put our independence and sovereignty in peril.”
“Khaleda Zia did not pushback Rohingya people, rather she sheltered them when she was in power. Alongside, she deployed army to put pressure on Myanmar to get them back,” he said.
The BNP leader also blamed the government for its dependency on other countries and said the Awami League government cannot stand on its feet upholding the face of the country.
Fakhrul compared the prevailing situation in Bangladesh with Myanmar and said there is no far difference between the two. “The people who are speaking for democracy here (Bangladesh) are either being killed or being forcefully disappeared,” he said.
Fakhrul was speaking a programme organised by Centre for Nationalism Studies at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity this afternoon.
