Fakhrul calls for national unity
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today termed the country’s prevailing political situation as “unimaginable” and called upon his party men to form a national unity to get rid of the situation.
“No mass upsurge gained its momentum without national unity and we will have to create the emotion in the people’s minds to get rid of the situation,” Fakhrul said while addressing a programme at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity this afternoon.
Blaming a neighbouring country for extending its supports to Awami League, Fakhrul said, none will do anything for BNP except the countrymen. “We will have to understand the reality.”
He said the entire nation got united following the death of Naziruddin Jihad on October 10 in 1990 while participating in an anti government movement during the then Ershad's military rule.
“But it is a matter of regret that no national unity has yet been formed after that,” he added.
Pointing the government’s firm position against the non government organisations (NGO), the BNP leader said none will be spared if the national unity is not formed against the government.
Jihad Smriti Parishad arranged the memorial programme with former Ducsu Vice-president Amanullah Aman in the chair.
