Ershad urges PM to hold nat’l dialogue
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad today urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to hold a national dialogue with the political parties to rescue the country from “severe crisis”.
“Hold dialogue in the House with those who do not believe in politics of arson,” he urged the premier while participating in a discussion on the proposed budget for 2016-17 fiscal.
Coming down heavily on the government for the ongoing misrule in the country, Ershad, also the special envoy to the prime minister, said, “Good governance is not only questionable but also it has been shot."
People cannot avail the benefits of development if good governance does not exist, he also said.
Pointing at deterioration of the law and order situation in the country, Ershad said, "No one is safe in the country today. Thirteen persons have become victims of secret killings since March last. Is this a sign of good governance?"
“Such a culture of impunity cannot continue for long. Development is impossible without good governance,” he added.
Lambasting Finance Minister AMA Muhith, the former president said Muhith was also finance minister during his tenure, but the difference is that banks were not looted then.
"If he (Muhith) can show that banks were looted during my tenure, I will quit politics today," he added.
He demanded a white paper on various incidents of "looting" and scams of all kinds in the financial sector in recent years.
The JP chief claimed that the government would be able to place another budget with the money smuggled out of the country, and asked the finance minister why he is allowing the criminals involved in the irregularities to “hide”.
"Try them. We are witnessing the culture of impunity," he said.
