BNP to stage demo Sunday
BNP today announced to stage demonstration across the country on Sunday protesting arrest warrant against the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia in connection with Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable graft cases.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed announced the programme at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters hours after issuance of the arrest warrant against Khaleda Zia.
A Dhaka court this afternoon cancelled ad interim bail of Khaleda Zia and issued arrest warrant against her as she failed to appear before it amid hartal called by some left-leaning parties protesting the recent hike of power tariff.
“It’s politically motivated and a part of blueprint design of the government,” Rizvi said expressing a strong condemnation over issuance of the arrest warrant.
As part of the programme, BNP and its front and associate bodies will stage demonstration at all district and upazila level headquarters across the country including the capital Dhaka on that day, Rizvi said.
Claiming that the arrest warrant is “contrary to the justice”, Rizvi also demanded immediate withdrawal of the arrest warrant.
Besides, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, announced to bring out processions at all educational institutes and district and metropolitan cities across the country on Friday to protest the arrest warrant.
In a press release, the JCD said the government is harassing BNP chairperson by suing law, judiciary and law enforcement agencies.
Meanwhile, Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Mohila Dal and others associate bodies of the party brought out processions from different points in the capital this afternoon protesting the arrest warrant.
