BNP to resist govt move to set up Rampal plant: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today warned that the government’s attempt to set a power plant in Rampal near the Sundarbans will be resisted by waging a mass movement.
“BNP will never allow the government to set the power plant in Rampal. We along with the countrymen will go for a tougher movement against the move,” Fakhrul said while addressing a seminar in Khulna city today.
He said the government is going to set up the power plant intending to garner satisfaction of its “foreign gods” ignoring the opinion of the conscious people across the world.
“We want electricity, we want development but don’t want the destruction of the world’s largest mangrove forest,” he added.
The BNP leader also called upon his party men as well as the countrymen to be vocal against the government’s move ignoring its acts of suppression and repression.
About the Unesco's concern over the Rampal power plant close to the Sundarbans, Fakhrul said the government should rethink before implementing the project in the area.
The seminar was held at a hotel in the port city organised by the pro-BNP Teachers Association of Khulna University.
