BNP to legally fight Tarique’s money laundering conviction: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said they will face the High Court verdict against Tarique Rahman in a money laundering case through a legal process.
The HC verdict against the party’s Senior Vice Chairman Tarique was totally politically motivated, Fakhrul told journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Tarique was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment and fined Tk 20 crore by the HC on July 21 in a money laundering case which may have an enormous impact on his political career.
The HC overturned a lower court verdict that acquitted Tarique in the money laundering case involving Tk 20.41 crore.

This is the first time Tarique, elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, has been convicted and handed down punishment by a court in one of the 19 cases filed against him since 2007.
“This act is to keep him out of politics,” the BNP leader alleged.
Led by Fakhrul, a five-member BNP delegation reached at the airport around 11:10am after attending a seminar on Bangladesh's current situation at the House of Lords in the UK.
