BNP hopes AL to work for restoring democracy
Welcoming Awami League’s upcoming council, BNP today expressed its hope that the party will work for restoring democracy in the country.
“There is no democracy in the country, but Awami League has a long tradition of working for the democracy of the country. At present an undeclared one-party rule is going on in the country. So we hope AL will work to bring back democracy in the country through the council,” BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said while talking to reporters at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office.
Earlier, a BNP delegates led by Fakhrul visited the Thai Embassy and expressed their condolences on the demise of King Bhumibol.
Later, he talked to the newsmen at Khaleda’s political office in Gulshan.
Replying to query, the secretary general said, the party is yet to receive any invitation from AL to attend its council scheduled to be held on October 22-23, at Shurawardy Uddyan.
“After getting the invitation, we will take decision whether to join the council,” Fakhrul added.
AL leaders on several occasions said, they will invite all political parties to attend its council except Jamaat-e-Islami for its anti-liberation role.
