BNP denied permission of May Day rally
BNP today was denied permission to hold its workers’ rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on the occasion of the Labour Day on May 1.
“We submitted an application to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan but couldn’t get its permission,” BNP leader Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Anee told The Daily Star.
“DMP told us that the Suhrawardy Udyan will be kept reserved only for the workers to congregate there on May 1 and no political party will be allowed to hold rally at the place,” Anee said.
“Despite this, we are eager to hold the rally on May 2 or 3 if the government permits us,” Anee, also publicity affairs secretary of the party, said.
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is likely to address the rally, he added.
Earlier this afternoon, a BNP delegation led by Anee met DMP Commissioner Asaduzzamman Mia.
