BNP demo tomorrow protesting Tarique’s conviction
BNP will stage demonstration tomorrow across the country protesting the High Court verdict that sentenced BNP senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman to seven years in prison in a money laundering case.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed announced the programme at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka today.
The demonstration will be observed protesting conspiracy of the government against BNP, he said.
Yesterday, the HC overturned a lower court verdict that acquitted Tarique in the money laundering case involving Tk 20.41 crore.
This is the first time Tarique, elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, has been convicted and handed down punishment by a court in one of the 19 cases filed against him since 2007.
Protesting the HC judgement, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of BNP, yesterday called for nationwide strike at educational institutions on July 24 (Sunday).
