Govt wants to divert people's attention: BNP
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today accused the government of diverting people’s attention from the Election Commission search committee by issuing an arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman.
“Frustration over the search committee has been created in the people’s mind and the arrest warrant has been issued to divert people’s attention from the issue,” Fakhrul made the allegation in a press statement issued for media this evening.

Fakhrul said the arrest warrant is nothing but the part of the “government sponsored spontaneous attack” on BNP, the statement reads.
Terming the arrest warrant as motivated, he said the government wants to erase the nationalist spirit from the country by implicating BNP men in false and fabricated cases, Fakhrul said.
To make indecorous and disgraceful remarks against BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, the party’s incumbent chief Khaleda Zia and her elder son Tarique Rahman, also the party’s senior vice chairman, have become a habitual fact of senior leaders of the ruling Awami League, he said.
“These are going on only to keep Zia’s family members away from politics,” he said adding that the government will fail to implement its “evil attempts”.
Expressing his anger over the issue, Fakhrul urged the authorities concerned to withdraw the arrest warrant against Tarique immediately.
