AL to get new leadership comprising old, new faces: Nasim
Awami League presidium member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim today said the upcoming party council will elect new central executive committee comprising old and new faces under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"Awami League will get new committee with old and new faces . . . The prime challenge for new leadership would be bringing the party in power with people's mandate in the 2019 general election ," he said while speaking at a joint meeting of Dhaka south city unit of AL at the Institution of Diploma Engineers at Kakrail in Dhaka.
Dhaka south city unit of AL president Abul Hasnat presided over the meeting arranged on the occasion of the upcoming AL council slated for October 22 and 23.
Referring to the uncompromising leadership of the prime minister, he said there is no alternative of Sheikh Hasina to become the president of the Awami League.
"Facing tough time as the party president, Sheikh Hasina brought Awami League into power thrice," he mentioned.
About different development activities, the AL leader hoped that people would reelect AL to run the state as it achieved tremendous success in various sectors including poverty alleviation, curbing militancy, an infrastructural development like construction of the multi-purposes Padma bridges by the country own financial support and increasing the maritime boundary.
He urged all, ministers, parliament members, party leaders and workers to remain alerted so that the image of the party is not tarnished anyhow as the present government has left only two and half years time.
Many foreign guests would attend the council programme, Nasim, also the convener of AL entertainment sub-committee, said: "Pakistan and Jamaat-e-Islami were not invited."
AL joint general secretary Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, MP, state minister for Jute and Textile Mirza Azam, MP, AL central committee member SM Kamal Hossain and general secretary of Dhaka south city unit of AL Shahe Alam Murad, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
Presidents, general secretaries and executive committee members of different thana, ward and union committees were also present in the meeting.
