AL to accept president’s decision on new EC: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today reiterated her party's stance to accept any decision made by the president to reconstitute the Election Commission for a free, fair and impartial general election.
“The honourable president will take measures according to his will. The Election Commission will be formed accordingly,” Hasina, also the president of ruling Awami League, said in her speech on the concluding sitting of the 13th session of the parliament.
The prime minister said she wants the continuation of holding the national election in a free, fair and impartial manner.
Hasina said BNP has put forward its opinion to the president on the formation of the new EC. “We will observe the process,” she said.
The prime minister criticised BNP-Jamaat government for holding many farcical elections during its tenure and said this very political party now speaks about the vote rigging and formation of the EC.
The prime minister also held Khaleda Zia responsible for killing many people by unleashing arson attacks in the name of the movement.
“Khaleda Zia will have to make an apology before the people as the mastermind of the attacks. And I want the speedy trial of those involved with the attacks.”
Referring to the general election in 2014, Hasina said BNP has made a mistake staying aside from the polls and it will have to pay penalty for this.
Citing her government’s achievement and progress in different sectors, Hasina said, “There will be no people homeless in the country and it is our target.”
Hasina also extended has advanced New Year greetings to people seeking good health and happiness in her concluding speech in the parliament.
