“Govt forms anti-militancy committees to harass BNP men”
BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan today alleged that the government has formed administrative committees across the country in a bid to harass the party men by implicating them in false and motivated cases.
“The government has formed administrative committees to resist militancy, but it is actually harassing our party men implicating them in politically motivated cases,” Khan made the allegation at a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan central office in Dhaka.
Khan said the government is “covering up” the real offenders instead of arresting the genuine militants and extremists.
He said many BNP leaders and activists have been arrested in different districts, including Satkhira, Thakurgaon and Feni deliberately.
Referring to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s repeated appeal to forge a national unity to resist militancy, Nazrul said the government has ruined the prospect of a mass resistance against terrorism by ignoring her call.
It has been proved that the emergence of militancy cannot be tackled only by the efforts of the administration and the law enforcement agencies, he said.
“Now it is necessary to forge a national unity with all parties as militancy can be eliminated only by the people’s strong and united resistance,” he added.
