PM warns BNP against any violence
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina this evening warned BNP of befitting answers if the party tries to harm people in the name of launching movement against the government.
“BNP’s movement means terrorism and militancy. If BNP does it, the government will not spare them,” said Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League, in her introductory speech of a meeting of AL Central Working Committee, the highest decision-making body of the party.
The meeting that started around 7:00pm with her in the chair is expected to determine the fate of sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique in the party.
Earlier on October 12, the ALCWC removed Latif from the AL presidium and suspended his primary membership of the party following his derogatory remarks on hajj and Hazrat Muhammad (PBUP).
On the same day, Latif was sacked from the Hasina-led cabinet.
The premier urged the countrymen to identify the people involved in terrorist activities and remain alert about them.
“We want continuation of the democratic process as it required for the development of the country,” she added.
Hasina bitterly criticised her political arch rival BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for her threat to launch movement to topple the government.
“She does not see that there is no ground under her feet for trying to launch an anti-government movement,” said the prime minister.
The closed-door meeting of the ALCWC started after the address of the prime minister.
