PM meets Myanmar president
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a bilateral meeting with Myanmar President Thein Sien at Presidential Palace here this afternoon.
During the meeting, they discussed issues related to bilateral interests.
Later, she met Myanmar Opposition Leader and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Rule of Law and Tranquility Aung San Suu Kyi at her parliament office.
Earlier, Suu Kyi, chairman of National League for Democracy, warmly received the prime minister at the Parliament Building by embracing her.
Later, Hasina introduced her entourage and family members to Suu Kyi.
The premier is also scheduled to meet Speaker of Myanmar Parliament Shwe Mann later in the day.
Hasina is now in Myanmar capital of Nay Pyi Taw on a two-day official visit to attend the third Bimstec Summit.
Earlier, the prime minister was accorded a red carpet reception when she arrived at Nay Pyi Taw International Airport at 10:15am (Myanmar time).
The summit of the seven-nation regional body of South Asia and South East Asia will be held at the Myanmar International Conference Centre in Nay Pyi Taw tomorrow.
The Bimstec (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) groups Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
