'Playing the World Cup is a dream'
Pacer Rubel Hossain, who was granted an anticipatory bail for a month last week by the High Court, returned to practice at Mirpur yesterday. The bowler joined Legends of Rupganj's practice session at the indoor facilities of Sher-e-Bangla Stadium ahead of the Super Six round of the Dhaka Premier League.
A case was filed against the cricketer under the Prevention of Oppression of Women and Children Act on December 13. The case may hinder Rubel's chances of playing in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year.
The bowler was included in the 30-member preliminary squad and the selectors are expected to announce the final squad by the first week of January.
While Rubel refrained from speaking on the case, he did however emphasise how important the upcoming World Cup is for him.
"Playing the World Cup will be like a dream. I am very hopeful of making the team. The conditions in Australia will suit pacers and maybe they [the selectors] will make a team according to those conditions. There may be more responsibility on us," said Rubel.
"If I get a chance to play this time I want to do something special, so that the people of this country remember me," he added. As of now Rubel is concentrating on the five remaining rounds of the Dhaka Premier League where he is expected to feature for his club side.
The Legends, who are led by Shakib Al Hasan, will face second-placed Prime Bank Cricket Club at the BKSP on Wednesday in a crucial clash.
Meanwhile, Shakib is expected to leave for Australia to take part in the Big Bash League in the first week of January. He has already requested for a No Objection Certificate from the BCB.
The question that remains however is whether Shakib will join the Bangladesh team in Brisbane after the competition or whether he will have to return to the country following the competition.
It's a decision which the board is expected to take after consultation with head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and other members of the team management.
