PLANNING THOSE BIRTHDAYS
It seems like it was just yesterday when your child was born and here you are now planning their birthday party. Let's be honest, even though it might not feel like a big deal, throwing your child a dream birthday party is no child's play.
We have all been to one of those parties where everything seems to be falling apart -- children running around, nothing to do for the adults and the house turning upside down causing you to dread planning and organising this wonderful occasion. But regardless of nightmare scenarios, it is perfectly doable.
Children perceive birthday parties as fun milestones and to be able to give them just that is a wonderful feeling in itself. They do not need to be expensive or full of extravagant fanfare, i.e. if you do not want them to.
Here's a beginner's guide on what to do to set the stage for a great birthday party for your little one.
What you need to do is make up your mind on where to have the party, whom to invite, the menu for the kids and adults, activities, and lastly: should you organise it yourself or hire some professionals?
Encourage participation from your child who will likely have a preference for themes and cakes. You can also involve them in crafting invitation cards and thank-you cards for party guests.
For a more manageable party, we recommend a warm-up party at school that the whole class can attend, and inviting your child's close friends for the main event -- it is going to be way less cumbersome and you will not have to be constantly checking up on an army of children.
Birthday parties can be arranged both indoors and outdoors. However, if you're planning to invite more than just a couple of friends and relatives, it is wise to hire space outside.
If your choice is the latter, pick a venue that is close to your residence -- a family restaurant of your child's choice preferably with a kids' zone where children can engage themselves with fun activities; the restaurant automatically takes care of food and decorations with minimum responsibilities at your end.
Event organisers have taken up organising children's birthdays as well. If you intend to throw a wonderful birthday party for your kid but lack the time and energy -- hand it over to these people to take care of the A-Z.
Fun Factory Rides is one such organiser that arranges thematic birthday parties such as superhero, princess, disco, rhymes and carnival themed parties. Founded in 2012, and now located in Gulshan 2, Fun Factory Rides specialises in various types of fun rides and activities such as the bouncy ride, musical rocking rides, toy train, merry-go-round, ball pool, etc.
Magic shows, ball twisting, ventriloquism, face painting activities can also be arranged upon client's direction. 3D billboards are one of the special offerings from Fun Factory Rides where you can surprise your child (and their friends) by having their favorite cartoon character on a 3D billboard that can extend up to 20 feet.
Fun Factory Rides has considerable experience catering to birthday parties both in Dhaka city and outside.
Another such birthday organiser is “Wedding Diary”—from the name you know that they plan wedding ceremonies but these guys go beyond and organise children's birthday parties too, and are remarkably adept at it.
In addition to the themes and activities mentioned above, they offer mini trains, rotating helicopters, candy floss machines, fireworks, merry-go-rounds and indoor coloured flames. A combination of these items would start from Tk.4500 and go beyond Tk.20,000 depending on your order list.
Irrespective of how you plan to organise your child's birthday party, it is best to not stretch them beyond three hours, or even less if you're planning to have the party on weekdays.
While much attention is paid on preparing activities for kids, it is also important to make sure that their parents are also having a good time; plan accordingly so that you can entertain them well.
Lastly, spend some quality family-time with your child. These birthdays will be precious memories for years to come.
