Piash Karim passes away
Piash Karim, a professor of BRAC University and a discussant of television talk-shows, has breathed his last at a hospital in Dhaka, reports Bangla Daily Prothom Alo.
Duty doctors at Square Hospitals Ltd pronounced him dead Early Monday after he was taken there with a heart condition around 4:00am, the daily reports quoting Jahir Karim, brother of the deceased.
The body of his brother, professor of Department of Economics and Social Sciences of the university, will be kept at the morgue of the hospital till Tuesday, Jahir said.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and secretary general expressed their deep condolences at Piash Karim’s death.
Professor Karim, also known as Manjur Karim, obtained his Ph.D in Sociology from Kansas State University, USA. His specialisations include Political Economy, Political Sociology, Nationalism and Social Theory, according to the university website.

He had extensive teaching experience in the United States and held faculty positions at University of Nebraska at Kearny and Culver- Stocketon College, Missouri for seventeen years before joining BRAC University in 2007.
His present passion focuses on Civil Society and Media Activism. He has published in international and national Journals.
