PCJSS activist shot dead in Khagrachhari

An activist of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS) was shot dead and another injured by unidentified assailants in Baltali area under Laxmichhari upazila of the district yesterday noon.
The deceased was identified as Narayan Marma, 30, son of late Mongi Marma of Narangiri area under Kaptai upazila of Rangamati district. The injured is Lakkhiranjan Chakma, 18, son of Bangaillya Chakma of Baltali area under Laxmichhari upazila.
Police quoted locals as saying that an unknown gang opened fire on Narayan and Lakkhiranjan when they went to a pond in the area to bathe at around 12:00pm.
Locals took Narayan and Lakkhiranjan to the upazila health complex where the doctors declared him dead. Lakkhiranjan was referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Assistant Superintend of Police (Ramgarh circle) Mohammad Shahjahan said the body of Narayan was sent to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Convener of PCJSS Laxmichhari upazila unit Dhiman Chakma blamed the armed cadres of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) for the killing.
Refuting the allegation, Niran Chakma, press and information secretary of UPDF, said his party men were not involved in the killing.
