Passenger from Pakistan held with ‘fake’ Indian Rupees
Customs Intelligence officials have arrested a person, with allegedly fake 70 lakh Indian Rupees in his possession, at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today.
The arrestee, named Akram, have arrived at Dhaka around 12:15pm from Karachi by a Pakistan Airways flight number PK266, said Dr Moinul Khan, director general of Customs Intelligence.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of intelligence officials arrested Akram while he was passing through the green channel and recovered the currencies from a black suitcase in his possession, the DG said.
The man could not show us his passport. The currencies that he was carrying are suspected to be fake, the official said.
The Custom Intelligence Department of Shahjalal airport has confiscated a total of Tk 37 crore in the last 20 months.
