Order on Khaleda's plea Sept 14
The Supreme Court today fixed September 14 for passing an order on two appeals filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging the appointment of a lower court judge, who framed charges against her in two corruption cases.
On March 19, Judge Basudev Roy of the Special Judge Court-3 framed charges against Khaleda and eight other in Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases.
Challenging the legality of Judge Roy’s appointment, Khaled filed the two writ petitions with the High Court on May 12.
The High Court on June 19 rejected the writ petitions.
On July 7, Khaleda filed two separate leave to appeal petitions with the Supreme Court against the High Court order.
After holding hearing on the appeals, a five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain today fixed the date for passing an order.
Mahbubey Alam, the attorney general, and Khurshid Alam Khan, a counsel for the Anti-Corruption Commission which filed the two graft cases, appeared before the court while lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali argued for Khaleda.
